Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company
“Ever Vigilant, Ever True” – this is the motto of the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company. And they take their mission very seriously.
On the façade of the shop (which is nestled in a quiet block of 5th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn, away from the bustle of the main shopping venues near Starbucks and Barnes and Noble) are signs reading such things as “Special Programs for Telepaths,” “Dastardly Plots Will be Foiled,” and “Full Capery.”
Inside, one is greeted by tall industrial-style shelving units with an array of useful items for the neophyte or professional superhero, such as spray cans of every imaginable super characteristic (Reflex; Intuition; Justice), handy, 32-oz family-size containers of Cloning Fluid and Time Travel (Warning: Don’t visit yourself in the past!), and Secret Identities – Guaranteed Untraceable.
Accessories such as X-Ray Goggles and Deflector Bracelets fill the bins along one wall. On another are maps; one pinpoints the locations of such useful areas as Landing Pads, Vortices, Villain Containment Units, Ripples in Space-Time, and Costume Cleaners; another helpfully illustrates the Index of Good and Evil (“Know where you'll find support, where they need you the most, and where you really, really don't want to break down.”)
For the casual visitor or simple tourist, they have T-shirts, simple black with white lettering proclaiming "STRIVE TO BE BORING" or “MY SECRET IDENTITY.” And, if you’re stumped for a gift for that special someone, “Giving a BSSCo Gift Certificate to your favorite hero is giving a gift to the whole justice-loving world.”
Even the sales receipt carries forth the message: “Swinging Into Action Our Specialty,” ” No Purchases Are Approved until the Vow of Heroism Has Been Read,” “There is No need to Shop Anywhere Else.”
Capes, manuals, lab supplies, and robotics – the list goes on. The BSSCo is heretofore a well-kept secret, but in the interest of getting the word out to potential Superheroes worldwide, I recommend stopping in if you’re in the neighborhood – or visit them on the WWW at superherosupplies.com.
